I just went PURPLE!
It was an in-home hair dye job done by a friend. We used Pravana Chromasilk Vivids in Violet and Orchid this time. I had used just the Violet about four months ago and it turned out to be a very dark purple. So this time, I mixed Orchid and Violet at 3:1 ratio.
Here’s how it turned out:
Here’s the BEFORE picture of my hair:
Here are the steps I took:
As you can see in the picture, I started out with dark brown hair and ombre highlights throughout. So the top of my hair was pretty dark and the bottom of my hair was light brown.
I waited about 30 minutes and washed my hair out in the kitchen sink before hopping into the shower in hopes of avoiding making the shower floor purple. I know from my previous experience with Pravana Violet, that even though I thought I had washed my hair pretty thoroughly, the purple hair dye kept coming off for about 3 weeks after dying my hair. The purple dye stains your fingers too. My fingers and nails were purple for the first 2 weeks.
To get the purple hair dye off of my shower floor, I poured Clorox, let it sit for a minute, and scrubbed away. Clorox did a fantastic job getting rid of the purple stain.
In terms of color longevity, this Pravana ChromaSilk Vivids are fantastic. Although I am writing this blog post the day after I died my hair, my previous experience with Pravana Violet has proven to me that the color lasts a long time. The color faded first in my previous non-colored, non-chemically treated hair. It lasted for about 4 months on the bleached/highlighted parts of my hair. So at the 4 month mark, It looked as though I had my normal brown hair with purple ombre tips at the end.
Taking Care of Your Colored Hair:
Everyone says don’t wash your hair every day… go as long as you can without washing to keep the color in your hair as long as possible… That totally makes sense. But I love to shower and be drenched in hot water. I just cant get myself to go longer than 2 days without washing my hair. So I have been washing my hair every other day and using Oscar Blandi dry shampoo on the days my hair doesn’t get washed. And on those dry shampoo days, I put my hair in a bun and take a shower.
Use color-safe shampoo and conditioner. I’ve tried a few different brands such as Joico and Redken, but the Matrix Total Results is my favorite.

Pravana ChromaSilk Vivids summarized:
PROS: beautiful, deep color that lasts.
CONS: the dye keeps coming off in the shower and it stains your hands and the shower floor
