Finding the perfect makeup brush is like… finding a new pair of jeans that fit you perfectly!
A good brush is absolutely necessary to create easy, flawless looks. Makeups come and go, but a good brush will last you longer than a decade with good care. Think of brushes as an investment, but nothing too crazy and expensive… reasonably priced, well built, and does what it’s supposed to do on your face!
I have tried and returned many brushes mostly because they shed when I give them the first bath with makeup brush shampoo. I still let them dry and give it a second chance by applying makeup with them. Almost all the time, the brushes that shed during the first wash continue to shed on my face.
Here are my tried and true, my absolute favorite two brushes for contouring. I use the bigger Sephora brush for creating more natural looks and use the MAC double sided brush for more precise application. Both of these brushes blend seamlessly and I highly recommend them if you’re looking for a good brush to contour with. The MAC double sided brush is good for both wet and dry makeup. The black side is for powder and the white side is for cream makeup. It is also perfect for highlighting your forehead, bridge of the nose, and your cheeks.
And you MUST take good care of your brushes!
I give them a quick spray and a wipe on a paper towel every couple days. It is recommended to shampoo /deep clean them once a week using a brush egg to keep them clean and for best performance, but I find that with daily quick wipes, every 2 weeks works just fine for me.
